Are you a mobile citizen? Are you considering moving to a different country? On these pages you find support for the whole process!

The following Web Quests focus on Finland as a target destination country and on the field of Information and Communication Technologies.

If these are not the topics you are interested in...just explore!

As part of the quest, we recommend you keep a learner's diary - write about your web quest experience and share the main outcomes with fellow learners: (BLOG TOOL TO BE ADDED!)

The LaProf project provides recommendations for mobility process - in particular, we provide resources for language preparation in the new cultural context - so, enjoy the preparation and the great experience of European mobility!

So, what are the steps to the new country?

1. Mobility preparation: How to prepare your visit - what are administrative and practical issues in the new country?

2. Cultural preparation: What to expect from the new culture - what is different, what is similar, what are the challenges?

3. Language testing: Which is your current level of the language? Test and reflect how you are doing!

4. Language preparation: Use self study and our materials to get prepared - we focus on understanding and reading skills but also provide further links and recommendations to excellent, tested materials.

5. Moving, finding work: How to find a job, how to prepare for it - what are administrative and practical as well as cultural challenges?

6. Working Life: How to work in the new environment, how to deal with different working cultures?

7. Improving everyday-life: You are settled already? But still facing some problems? Check this section how to get out of problematic situations, culture- and language-wise!

Mobility Preparation

Situation: You are planning to move to Finland - you have the idea that this could be an option - but is it the right place? What to do for preparation? Where and when and how to go?

Task: Please try to answer the following questions for your preparation?

1. What documents do I need when moving to Finland? 2. What steps do I need to relocate? 3. How can I prepare the registration to Finnish authorities?

Cultural Preparation

What is specific in the Finnish culture - you might have heard about lakes and forests, sauna and other characteristics...explore a bit on Finnish culture and about the specific aspect in the working life.

Task: You are planning to move to Finland and to get acquainted with every-day customs as well as specifics of the working life - identify common characteristics of your target region (national, regional culture) and potential employers (organizational culture). What are the most relevant customs and cultural aspects you can find? And how to find out more?

Language Testing

They say that the Finnish language is not very easy.. but you don't believe in rumours! You would like to check your Finnish language skills.. we suggest that you try the following options:

Language Preparation

Situation: You have made your first friend in Finland: Maila. Since you don't speak Finnish well, at least you have to make sure you know at least how to say "hello", "good-bye" and "thank you" every time you meet

Moving, Finding Work

Task: You are looking for a job in Finland - whom to contact, what are the final preparations you need to do? What are normal work customs, how often can you visit your friend back home? If your are planning to teach, how is the Finnish system different?

  • How many holidays do you expect?
  • Whom to contact when you get sick?
  • What is the average tax rate?
  • What are the main differences in Finland and Estonia in teaching?
  • What’s the role played by the regulation of first language tutoring?

  • What do you need to get your car into Finland? Do you have to change your driving license?

Working Life

1. Situation: To prepare for ICT job you need to learn some terminology related to security, cybercrime, viruses, malware etc.

Task: Find out how security devices are able to trace a hacker or protect your data. Discuss with your partner on Skype how he protects his computer from viruses and spyware. Find out if he has ever experienced or heard of data stealing.

2. Situation: Your employer has asked you to find out more information about "Pharming" and "Phising" and present it to your colleagues.

Task: Learn what "pharming" and "phising" mean and how they work.

3. Situation: You have found an interesting job advertisement. You would like to apply for it, but you are not sure what has to be included in your letter and how to organize it.

4. Situation: You hear that your colleague has installed the latest version of Windows and you would like to know if he has made a smart decision.

Task: Discuss the three most recent versions of Windows and share your opinion with other partners on Skype.

Situation: You have been in Finland for a while - but now you realize that there is more than a successful job life - how to meet new friends, how to improve the personal life?

Task: You are looking for activities around your new area of living - which contact points do you have?
