Dr. Vassilis Protonotarios has a 5-year bachelor, a 2-year MSc and a 4-year PhD in Agricultural Biotechnology, all from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece).

He has professional experience in the field of Organic Agriculture, both as an officer in the Directorate of Organic Agriculture of the Greek Ministry of Food and Rural Development as well from his participation in various EU projects concerning Organic Agriculture, working as an external scientific associate for Agricultural University of Athens, Greek Research & Technology Network (GRNET) and Agro-Know Technologies. He is a Scientific Associate of Agro-Know Technologies since January 2011. He is also the Greek National Editor of Organic Eprints

He is working on topics covering educational/training resources, blended learning, educational metadata, digital collections/repositories, integration of Web 2.0 tools in the agricultural training context etc. He has also worked with learning/training scenarios in various EU projects (such as Organic.EdunetOrganic.BalkanetCerOrganic & eCOTOOL).

Projects / Areas of Interest

Vassilis is currently actively involved in a number of EU projects, such as

  • VOA3R: Coordination of the content population/integration process, working on the evaluation of the metadata records that exist in the VOA3R portal and preparing/conducting a number of the project's controlled experiments. In addition he likes to disseminate the project and related events through various channels (Twitter/Facebook).
  • Organic.Lingua: Based on his previous experience with Organic.Edunet, he is currently working on the expansion of the Organic.Edunet network.
  • agINFRA: Supporting the project by providing information regarding the digital collections that can be integrated in the network/infrastructure.
  • ISLE Erasmus Network: Mostly dissemination activities (being the Dissemination WP leader), but also involved in other activities, such as learning scenarios and supporting the development of the project's content using a course management platform. 

In addition, he has actively participated in other EU projects that have ended, such as:

  • Organic.Balkanet (2009-2011): Dissemination activities (being the Dissemination WP leader) but also content development and coordination/support of tasks related to various WPs.
  • CerOrganic (2009-2011): Mostly working with training scenarios and Web 2.0 tools in agricultural training, developing content (in the form of training units/modules) related to the integration of ICT tools in agriculture, as well as taking over specific tasks. 


Vassilis is really font of Web 2.0 tools related to the projects that he is involved in, so he likes updating Twitter accounts, Facebook groups and Flickr collections!

Leisure

In his free time, Vassilis likes to cycle, take photos, read books and watch movies. He also loves travelling, visiting new places and meeting new people. He loves gadgets, computers of any kind (PDAs, laptops/netbooks, tablets), free software and blogging. He moves around Athens using exclusively his bike and public means of transportation, because he hates driving in traffic.
