From AgroknowTechnical University of Crete, Greece. He also holds a PhD on the application of metadata technologies in the domain of agriculture, from the Informatics Laboratory of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Greece.
He has extensive experience in designing and coordinating large scale initiatives related to the organisation, sharing, and discovery of agricultural information for research, education and innovation. He is a member of the Steering Group of the AGRIS service of the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO). He is also serving as the co-chair of the Knowledge & Learning Systems Working Group (KLSWG) of the World Bank’s Global Food Safety Partnership (GFSP). He is also a member (and has served as an elected President) of the ARIADNE Foundation, a non-profit-association working towards the facilitation of knowledge creation, sharing and reuse.
Nikos has contributed to the conception, coordination, and implementation of several projects that have been supported with funding from the European Commission - such as eContentplus Organic.Edunet, CIP PSP VOA3R, CIP PSP Natural Europe, CIP PSP Organic.Lingua, FP7 agINFRA and FP7 SemaGrow. He is also often invited to consult organisations that want to deploy initiatives related to metadata repositories and aggregations.
He has over 150 publications in scientific journals, book volumes, and conference proceedings. Most of them can be discovered through his profile in Google Scholar. The slides of some of his talks can be found in his SlideShare page.
Nikos is interested in ways in which open agricultural data & models can be the base upon which a new business ecosystem may formed to facilitate agricultural and technological innovation. He is devoting much of his energy in making Agro-Know a pioneer stakeholder in such an ecosystem, while a lot of his efforts are extended towards ensuring that all employees in the company have the right information, support, responsibility and flexibility to deliver exceptional value to the customer while being happy working for Agro-Know. He tries to find time to post some of his ideas and opinions at the Agro-Know blog.
